Weekend Entertainment...Movies Wat else!!!

This weekend I planned to watch the new budding actors who were proudly launched by 'the director papa' & 'producer mamu' in the movie... Love Story 2050 (oh God! watta waste of money and my precious time...wish i had donated that money to some ngo!) & Jaane Tu ya Jaane na (mera paisa wasul ho gaya..does that say it all)respectively..

What do I say abt the new talent in tinsel town 'Hrithik look alike' Harman Baweja...I strongly feel that he was not ready to step into a movie where his poor father... oh! i mean rich father spent 50 odd crores to make a sci fi movie ....that has a weak script, poor direction, sad dialogues, very mediocre songs, awwwwfull dress designer...oof...and horrendous makeup (esp ugly priyanka chopra with a red mane) I wonder how can everything go wrong in a movie...esp when you spend so mUCCHH and hype it like helll???Any sane experienced director cannot possibly make such a movie. There has to be some element that would interest the audience. Guys pls pls think of the audience before you make such movies.

Love Story 2050 is an extremely long, dragging, directionless flick which has nothing to look forward to... oh yes you certainly look forward to the intermission and the you desparately want the movie to end....

But for those still interested, Love Story 2050 is about a 'simple' love story between a reckless Karan Malhotra (Harman-- who is hardly reckless!!) and an extremely giggly and irritating Sana (Priyanka). But what the planets (astrology) hold in store for the two lovers only Uncle Ya (Boman Irani) knows. And just like any Hindi movie, missy Sana dies..

And in the next scene we realise that Miss Sana had 'rightly' corrected genius Uncle Ya's equation (Alpha to infinity) , thus enabling the proper functioning of his 'Time Machine' which transports Harman and Uncle Ya to Mumbai 2050 (thanks to a computer hanging, also caused by Missy's expeditions a few days earlier)

The second half then revolves around Harman trying to woo Zeisha (Priyanka ''re' incarnation) to love him (AGAIN).. Well!! Not too difficult when he has 30 days time and all odds against him and what not!!

Finally the red head Zeisha recalls the entire story by reading sana's dear diary (and with the help of two robos - Qute & Boo) and agrees to go back to 2008 with her lover Karan...and they live happily ever after with of course QUTE and BOO...wat a waste of money that has been pumpend into this movie...

I give 1 star to the movie 1 star to Harman who really tried hard to ape everything from Hrithik!...and minus points to Priyanka...atleast being an experienced actor she should have done a better job...I would strongly recommend her to change her make up artist...PLEAAAAAaaSE.

Now coming to our second equally hyped movie - Jaane Tu ya jaane na...starring stars Imran Khan, Aamir's nephew and the attractive Genelia D'Souza..

The story has been used for every second romantic (college) movie...crux being "ek ladka aur ek ladki kabhi dost nahi ban sakte hain...". However the treatment of the movie is different and fresh. It has a touch of comedy and little bit of romance and lots of fun played by the new bunch of kids. One can see a mix of Socha Na tha & a little bit of Dil Chahta Hai in this college comedy flick.

The film is about the protagonist Jai Singh Rathore a.k.a Rats (the talented Imraan Khan), a non-violent Rajput and Aditi Mahant a.k.a Meow (Genelia D’Souza), cute and violent at the same time. Aditi feels Jai is fattu (coward). They fight like crazy but just can’t live without each other. Their parents, their friends think they are almost a made for each other couple but they believe they are just great friends. So when do they know it’s love? This is the crux of the story. Doesn’t sound too great!!! but do not go by the simple story. Abbas Tyrewala has weaved beautiful situatins that will just take you back to your college days. Watch it for its simplicity, well etched characters and situations and above all some excellent cameos by Naseeruddin Shah, Ratna Pathak Shah, Paresh Rawal, Arbaaz Khan and Suhail Khan!!! Simply brilliant.

Director Abbas Tyrewala has executed the screenplay with brilliance because there was nothing new in the story. It’s just his treatment that makes the difference. The first half is pacy, though the second half tends to get a little predictable. But there are ample moments that make you smile…like the scene between Amit and Aditi, his confession. Heart warming and brilliant… Aditi begins to realise her love for Jai only when Manjari Phadnis enters the scene. The jealousy, sadness and regret is executed and performed perfectly. The scenes between Jai’s mother (Ratna Pathak Shah) and his dead father talks from a portrait (Naseruddin Shah) are Hilarious! and above all the chemistry between the gang of 6 friends…so believable. The dialogues are witty and brilliant.

The strongest point of Jaane tu…remains the music. You can just salute the genius of A.R. Rehman, just look at his range!!!. “Pappu cant dance saala” “Kabhi Kabhi Aditi” and the title track may not be classics but when you watch the movie, you feel these are the songs these characters could have sung.

Now a little bit about the performances. Imraan Khan makes a very impressive debut. In a tailor-made role not once does he go over the top. A good restrained performance, however it is to be seen if he has got some range. Genelia D’Souza’s simply excels…she oozes confidence that makes her character so believable…It seems so ridiculous that she wasted her talent in some nonsense movies before. Manjari Phadnis looks good, acts well. Ratna Pathak Shah is superb and so is Naseeruddin Shah. Paresh Rawal has got just 3 scenes and you have to see what good actors can do even in smaller roles. A special mention for Arbaaz Khan and Suhail Khan…guys they are just FABULOUS. After watching their chemistry in this movie one just cannot believe that the brother duo have never been cast togather..Strange isnt it!! They make you laugh whenever they appear on screen. The director has managed to extract excellent performances from every other character actor..

I give 4 stars to the movie and 3 & 1/2 stars to Imraan Khan. Thumbs up for all the charachters alongwith Genelia...It is a must watch.
